SLUMS OF THE EMPIRE CITY

A true-crime comic of 1860s New York.

New York City, 1869. Street kids are going missing, and nobody with a badge is looking. Down on Charlton Street, the only ones who can stop it are the criminals who call the slums home — river pirates, saloon keepers, and a teenage gang leader named Sadie. Every issue of Slums of the Empire City is built from the real record: period newspapers, court files, and census pages, dug out of the archives over years of research. Some of it is legend. More of it than you’d think is documented fact.
